Our Teaching Approach

The Intermediate Phase at Abbotsford Christian School supports learners as they grow in independence, responsibility and confidence within a Christ-centred environment.

From Grades 4 to 7, our dedicated teachers guide learners through the CAPS curriculum, enriched through biblical integration, helping them develop strong values alongside academic excellence.

We believe that every learner has unique potential. Our teachers strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where learners are known, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Learners are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, work independently and take ownership of their learning. Opportunities such as district Mathematics and Science competitions extend learning beyond the classroom, building confidence, curiosity and a love for discovery.

Preparing Learners for a Digital Future

Digital literacy is an important part of our Intermediate Phase learning experience. Learners are introduced to Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and other digital tools, using technology creatively to enhance their learning.

They develop projects such as educational games, digital presentations and posters, allowing them to apply their knowledge in practical and meaningful ways.

Our approach focuses on software over hardware, using digital tools purposefully within integrated lessons to support different learning styles, abilities and levels of understanding.

Through this approach, learners develop essential digital literacy, creativity, collaboration, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Our focus

We focus is on the holistic development of each learner—academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually—preparing them not only for the next phase of their educational journey, but also to become confident, responsible and capable young people who are equipped to make a positive difference in the world.

Mrs Chamela Naidoo (Grade 4 & 5)

The Grade 4 and 5 year marks an exciting stage in a learner’s academic and personal development. During this time, learners grow in independence and confidence as they adjust to new academic challenges and responsibilities.

At our school, we strive to create a supportive, Christ-centred environment where every learner feels valued and encouraged to do their best. We aim to nurture not only academic growth, but also character, kindness and respect for others.

We aim to equip our learners with the skills they need to think critically and grow in their faith as they discover their God-given talents. By working closely with parents and maintaining a supportive learning environment, we help our learners build a strong foundation for the years ahead.

Ms Thandile Mazilazila (Grades 6 & 7)

The Intermediate Phase is a vital stage in a learner’s development, where independence, responsibility, and confidence continue to grow. In Grades 6 and 7, we aim to prepare learners academically, socially, and emotionally for the transition into the Senior Phase and high school.

Alongside academic learning, we offer Biblical intervention and mentorship classes to support learners’ spiritual and personal growth, guiding them to build strong values, make wise choices, and show respect and compassion for others.

Through quality teaching, mentorship, and partnership with parents, we strive to help each learner reach their full potential academically, socially, and spiritually
